ALLUSION TO JANIS JOPLIN

During the fall 1970 recording sessions for the Pearl album with The Doors and Phil Ochs producer Paul A. Rothchild, Joplin was found dead at the Landmark Hotel in Hollywood on October 4, 1970, most likely due to an overdose of heroin and whiskey. She was 27. The last recordings she completed were "Mercedes Benz" and a birthday greeting for John Lennon on October 1, 1970; Lennon, whose birthday was October 9, later told Dick Cavett that her taped greeting arrived at his home after her death.

She had acquired a reputation as a "speed freak" and occasional heroin user. She also used other intoxicants. She was a heavy drinker throughout her career, and her trademark beverage was Southern Comfort.

Like many other female singers of the era, Joplin's feisty public image was at odds with her real personality. The book Love, Janis, written by her sister, has done much to further the reassessment of her life and work and reveals the private Joplin to have been a highly intelligent, articulate, shy and sensitive woman who was devoted to her family.

The American Pie verse is generic, about a girl telling (sang) her story of hard times and problems (the blues) to the listener. If it were about JANIS, this would be horribly sad and tragic, considering the true meaning of the lyric and her untimely death.

The listener offers a remedy. He asks her for (if she has any) some happy (good)news. She rejects his offer of a solution. She smiles (more likely snickers or laughs) and turns away.

Ever witness someone, offer information, only to have the recipient laugh and walk off ? That's the scene here.

Searching for the truth, I took my quest (chevy) for truth via the standard vehicle (also Chevy) to the church (levee=keeper of living water, the WORD or levee=gathering before royalty) to get a sermon(lesson), but the sermon was dry (void of substance).

Them good old boys (clergy) were corrupt in the way they were living, more interested in their self gratification than being servants of GOD.

Since 1971 think of Jim Jones, Jim and Tammy Baker, Jimmy Swaggart, David Koresh, Moonies, Hare Krishnas, Radical Islam, pedefile priests, adulterous evangelists, and on . . . money and power corrupts. No religion is free from it. . . Good Ole Boy Clubs (religions) that fatten and entertain themselves rather than reaching out to a hurting, lost and dying world with kindness and LOVE. Offering up "strange fire" as their sacrifice. . .

RELIGION is man's attempt to reach GOD, mostly gone astray.

THE DANGER is that the LEVEE (church) not only contains the moving (living) water (which is the WORD) but in the process, confines it, restricts it's motion, controls it's release and use, and seperates it from the people, keeping them dry. Herein lies the danger of the misuse of the LEVEE.

ALTAMONT MUSIC FESTIVAL

On December 6, 1969 the Rolling Stones organized - if that's the right word - and headlined the free Altamont Music Festival at the Altamont Speedway in northern California.

The Altamont venue was finally settled on as late as December 4.
Surprisingly enough, 400,000 rock fans showing up at a place selected within the last 48 hours turned out badly. Four people managed to wind up dead. A couple of people got killed in an auto accident amidst the chaos, and one person managed to drown in a drainage ditch. The famous death, of course, was an 18-year-old kid named Meredith Hunter, who was stabbed multiple times and kicked to death on film right in front of the stage by Hell's Angels during the Rolling Stones set.This is just the kind of thing that BEGS for pontification, asserting Big Profound Meaning and so forth. It was the anti-Woodstock, and the dark side of the hippie culture, the death of the '60s, etc. Among other things, the event was immortalized in Don McLean's famous "American Pie" wherein the Satanic Jack Flash was lustfully presiding over the "sacrificial rite." It was the climactic destruction and sweeping away of Buddy Holly's rock and roll "true love ways." It was the final day when the music really, really died.

Obviously, a lot of this stuff is being loaded onto happenstance, which leads to people twisting the actual random chaos of the event to fit their mythologies. For example, it has sometimes been claimed that Hunter was killed while the Stones were playing "Sympathy for the Devil." Obviously that would be perfect mythology, with the whole Satanic "sacrificial rite" angle. In fact, they had finished that song, and were specifically playing "Under My Thumb" at the critical moment — which to me is a more interesting sentiment to be playing out for that event. Fortuitously, the Rolling Stones had a camera crew filming their tour for a movie, which was eventually released under the title Gimme Shelter.

YOU CAN'T SEE THE TRUTH FOR THE ALLUSION THAT'S BLOCKING YOUR VISION . . .

ONCE AGAIN, ALTAMONT MUSIC FESTIVAL IS THE ALLUSION TO THE REAL EVENT.

The real event did occur high on a mountain. It did involve a sacrifice and a huge fire into the night. . . and killing.

COINCIDENCE ?

Consider again the meaning of the word ALTAMONT.

If this free concert had been held at another location, then the translation High Mountain and the allusion to the real location would not exist.

Originally this concert was to be held 4 months after Woodstock, on Dec 06 and at Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The Rolling Stones were not announced and were to be a surprise act. The concert was supposed to be "Woodstock West".

In a press conference, Jagger announced the Stones would be on the bill, and consequently permits were not issued for the concert site. The City feared a repeat of the chaos that occurred at Woodstock.

The venue was moved to Sears Point Raceway, but squabbles over film rights resulted in that location being cancelled.

Dec. 06, 1969, was the concert date, and finally on Dec. 04 the Altamont Speedway location was secured.

Critics called the killing of Meredith Hunter a tragedy marking the "Death of the Woodstock Nation".

And in the real event that Altamont is an allusion to, the killings also marked the death of a counter culture movement.

The Disaster was a result of man building levees . . .

Was the destruction of New Orleans some form of Judgement ?

The Judgement was indeed man made, from an unintended manipulation of the ENVIRONMENT by building levees to confine the Mississippi River and Lake waters, and instead retaining flood level waters within the levee bowl.

There are many "days that music died", but all stem from the primary occurrance, the first "DAY THE MUSIC DIED"

If you were brought up in a religious tradition, do you recall from Bible class or Catechism that all human problems stem from "The Fall", or ORIGINAL SIN ?

That "Fall" was ADAM and EVE's big mistake in the Garden of Eden.

Now this is the first place anyone has ever heard this, but I'm compelled to inform you that the event in the Garden was not THE original sin. Maybe the first sin for MAN, but not the first, original SIN.

The first sin is clearly revealed in the Bible (reference database), and occurred a long long time before the creation of man.

"It was really like the first rock n' roll landmark; the first death", said rock historian Jim Dawson.

The Day the Music Died was also the first music related death . . .just not Buddy's.

What appears to be a Don McLean autographed copy of the lyrics for the song American Pie are seen on a wall in the Green Room at the Surf Ballrom, in Clear Lake, Iowa. It's been 50 years since the single-engine plane crashed into a snow-covered Iowa cornfield killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson on February 03, 1959.

Please notice that there is a line left out . . . " And maybe, they'd be happy for a while". Why would Don McLean intentionally leave out a line of a song that he has sung thousands of times? Did he forget the words? Doubt it. Looks like his signature at the bottom, covered with clear tape (or imprinted on clear tape). Did he write this ? Did he sign it ?

In any case, it is there on the Surf Ballroom wall to perpetuate the myth that AMERICAN PIE was about Buddy Holly.

It was dedicated to Buddy Holly, but not at all about him. . .

Interesting how the " handwriting on the wall" lays out. Notice what is written by Steve, in parenthesis, immediately above the top red line. The header, or title, the clue as it appears. Most important.

Interior of the Surf Ballroom (as it looked in 1959 and as preserved today) located in the small northern Iowa town of Clear Lake, Iowa, where the rock pioneers Richie (La Bamba) Valens, J.P. (Chantilly Lace) Richardson, and Buddy (That'll Be The Day) Holly gave their last performance 50 years ago.

The real connection with Buddy Holly is is the American Pie Lyric "this'll be the day that I die" which echoes the song "That'll be the day". The rest of American Pie weaves it's allusion to the rock scene from there.

Interesting that if you tell the same myth enough times it takes the place of the truth in people's minds. How many other things can you think of that we perceive in media and within our belief system that are simply not true. It often takes insight to allow you to "see".

And so it is that the truth of the meaning of AMERICAN PIE was hidden for almost 40 years. 40 is significant . . .
